WHAT DOES THE ASSESSMENT INVOLVE ?
Pre-drive.
The Assessors start the assessment with a simple vision test, asking you to read a number plate the minimum legal distance of 20 metres.
They will then have an initial discussion with you to find out relevant background information such as :
A simple physical assessment is then conducted to confirm your physical abilities in relation to driving.
If deemed appropriate, a cognitive assessment will be conducted. This will involve a series of short tasks to evaluate memory, attention, concentration, co-ordination and visual perception.
THE ASSESSMENT RIG
This is a computerised system (only available in Truro) that assesses strength of limbs, range of movement and reaction times. It can be helpful for clients without driving entitlement who are limited to an ‘off-road’ drive.
ON-ROAD DRIVE
The final stage of the assessment is a drive in one of our dual controlled vehicles. This may only take place if the client has entitlement to drive and passes the eyesight test.
OUTCOME
The outcome of the assessment, including recommendations, will be fully discussed with you.
A written report will be produced and may be sent to you, your doctor and referrer.
