The Trustees are individuals, with a range of skills and experience that benefit the centre, working as volunteers they do not receive any remuneration for their roles on the board.

Philip has been on the Board of Directors at Cornwall Mobility, a not for profit company and registered charity, since October 2017 as Vice-Chair. He has taken over as the Chair of the Board since January 2024.
Philip was formerly Pro-Vice Chancellor (R&I) at Falmouth University between 2012 and 2017, where he led the management of all research and development activities and was also Chair of the Centre for Smart Design. Philip retired from Falmouth University in August 2017.
Philip held the position of Visiting Professor of Intelligent Automation at the University of Skövde, Sweden from 1994 until June 2022, where he jointly started the Centre for Intelligent Automation, which subsequently evolved to become the current Virtual Systems Research Group.
Philip studied Production Engineering and Management at Loughborough University whilst working in the automotive industry for GKN Sankey. Philip then studied for a PhD in Robotics, whilst working in research at Loughborough, before joining as an academic member of staff firstly as a lecturer and then senior lecturer, where he was a founder member of the Manufacturing Systems Integration (MSI) Research Institute.
Philip has acted as a Consultant for Smart Connected Living (SCL) Ltd, a company specialising in Smart Home technology until June 2024. Philip was on the Board of Directors of the Smart Home and Building Association (SH&BA) for over ten years until 2016.
Philip’s own research focused on smart digital technologies and their integration with sustainable design to address some of the societal grand challenges such as climate change, energy resilience, health and wellbeing and the ageing society. Other research interests include digital manufacturing and automation. Philip was responsible for the founding of Digital Games at Falmouth University and the associated research in computer games technology. Philip has supervised some 50 PhD programmes to completion and has been external examiner on over 50 occasions.
From 2017 until now Philip has been a member of the Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) Steering Group for Perranzabuloe Parish. In seven years a detailed NDP has been developed by the group and was recently approved by the Parish Council, Cornwall Council and the External Examiner. The plan now goes to referendum in September 2024 after which it has legislative power for all future planning decisions in the Parish until 2030 and possibly beyond.
Philip hobbies include walking with his Rough Collie dogs, golf, tennis, travel in his camper van, DIY and gardening.
Len’s professional background is public sector. As a past Chief Officer of a Unitary Authority, he has experience of running complex services against restricted resources. He has worked as an independent Management Consultant for the last 23 years much of this work being for the third sector. He has extensive experience in establishing Community Interest Companies, Charities and Social Enterprises and has served as a board member on a range of these. He is also a long standing member of Cornwall’s Design Review Panel where he advises developers on Environmental and Biodiversity issues.
Based in Cornwall he is familiar with the particular restrictions that Health issues can have on curtailing the quality of people’s lives in a rural area, which in turn led to his involvement in Cornwall Mobility.
Len’s other interests include endurance horse riding, which he combines with a love of travel to unusual places, sailing and the natural environment.
Tony is a Chartered Accountant who currently works in a Partnership Practice. The Practice deals with, in addition to normal commercial businesses, a wide range of Charitable enterprises, some of which are medically related. This provides him with a working insight into the financial issues which tend to face most Charities. He is also a Trustee of an Alms House Charity providing accommodation to the elderly and also a member of the local Rotary Club of which he is the Chairman of the Committee dealing with Charitable requests and donations.
Whilst his background is obviously financial and provides him with an excellent insight into the needs of the Centre, he is also acutely aware of the personal facts of mobility issues for which the Centre provides invaluable and sensitive support.
His other interests include gardening (badly) and having previously played rugby, maintains a keen interest in local and national matches.
James lives at St Michael’s Mount, which attracts over 350,000 visitors each year and is managed in partnership with the National Trust. As well as operating the visitor activities on the Mount, his family business comprises a 5,000 acre Estate, which has been part of the West Cornwall landscape for over 600 years. He was the founder Chairman of Pirate FM and continued in that role for the 27 years that Pirate broadcast as an independent radio station for Cornwall. He has served on numerous other boards, both in Cornwall and beyond.
I was elected as a Trustee and Board Member for Cornwall Mobility in 2017. I feel privileged to be part of this organisation. Knowing the wonderful work it contributes through assessment and offering solutions for the people of Cornwall and Devon, who through health issues particularly affecting mobility, have lost independence and possible isolation.
As an Occupational Therapist at Treliske hospital I worked closely with CM, referring patients for many reasons as well as receiving the benefit of a wheelchair service for children requiring short term use of wheelchairs following injury or surgery. On retirement being elected as a Trustee has given me great pleasure. Particularly seeing and being part of the growth of our Plymouth outreach Assessment Centre developing into a fully-fledged Satellite Centre based in Exeter.
I joined Cornwall Mobility in 2018 as a trustee.
I retired from General Practice in 2017 after 30 years working in Newquay. I continue to do some sessions in the practice but also spend my time doing work in charity and community projects. I have lived in Cornwall for over 40 years moving here after finishing medical school in Aberdeen. Originally from the Shetland Islands so I have travelled a few miles.
One of my main missions in life has been to try to make the world a fairer place with improved accessibility for all groups and Cornwall Mobility is one organisation which achieves this. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far and have huge respect for the team.
Patric is an entrepreneur who spent most of his professional life creating innovation ecosystems that connect universities, start-ups, industries and investors.
He holds a PhD in Virtual Manufacturing and founded his first company straight out of university, and he’s been director for a software company going public.
Patric has been an external non-executive director of the board for several 100 million companies and has insight into a range of sectors including media, banking & insurance, software and manufacturing.
Patric’s most recent former role was as Professor and Deputy-Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Falmouth University.
Dr Eriksson joined the Cornwall Mobility Board in April 2024.
Tracie started her career as a professional nurse and progressed to increasingly strategic roles in nursing and healthcare. It is her considered opinion that care should be about more than merely meeting external quality standards and that every individual is deserving of respect, empathy and unconditional positive regard.
Carrie is an experienced HR Director, consultant and senior manager. She has worked for, and with, private, public and not for profit organisations from small local employers to multinational organisations and across a broad range of sectors including health, financial services, technology, retail, manufacturing, hospitality, and central government.
When she set up as an HR consultant in 2010 she also joined a number of Boards in trustee and non-executive roles, as well as serving as an independent member on Remuneration Committees for local and National not for profit organisations. Her roles have included being Chair/Commissioner for Falmouth Harbour, Independent Remuneration Committee member for National Trust, and Trustee roles for Multi Academy Trust, Leisure Services, and a charity supporting survivors of sexual assault. She is currently a Trustee of Age UK Cornwall.
Carrie is always keen to learn and make a meaningful contribution and returns as a Trustee to Cornwall Mobility after a 2 year break, excited to rejoin the skilled team and to be part of the plans for the future.
She has Spondyloarthritis and has had personal experience of the really limiting effect this condition had on her own mobility and physical independence, prior to correct diagnosis. She feels very fortunate that her condition is now well managed with medication but knows that this situation may change in the future.
Her own health journey, alongside caring for relatives with mobility issues, has made her a really strong advocate of the importance of maximising personal independence, of individuals having knowledge of, and access to, the equipment and adaptations that are available to enable this, and, based on her own experiences, the lack of general public awareness about the amazing possibilities that centres like Cornwall Mobility can provide to someone to enable their ongoing independence and mobility.
