BBC Spotlight came to see us on 18 August to film an item about our mobility scooter training programme which was developed following an accident in Truro earlier in the year when a man in his 90s drove his mobility scooter off the harbour wall and had to be resuced by the emergency services.
We worked with the then Minister of State at the Department for Transport (Baroness Kramer) and local MP (Sarah Newton C. Truro and Falmouth), and BHTA (British Healthcare Trades Association) to develop a national framework for the basic assessment of suitability, and operational training, for users at the point-of-sale. The training includes assessment of their health, attitude to other road users and pedestrians, as well as their ability to operate the vehicle. The training will now be rolled out across all BHTA registered suppliers in the country.
Pictured are our CEO, Edward Trewhella with our Independent Living department Mel Brown, who is putting our client, Keith through his training.
